Hidden Gems in Selangor

Updated: Sep 24, 2021

If you have ever been to Petra? The ancient city that was left to sleep through the ages. Currently shining again, today, as a tourist hot spot. Well, Kuala Kubu Bharu in Hulu Selangor, is one of many more places in this blessed land that underwent such event.

Kuala Kubu Bharu translates directly to 'confluence fort new'. The old Kuala Kubu town was established in the 1800s near a confluence of tributaries of the Selangor River. The result of a booming mining activity it became the second largest and busiest town in Selangor.

During the Selangor Civil War, a fort was built here by a Malay royal and chief to protect against local rebels. This was how Kuala Kubu came to be.

But heavy a downpour caused the dam to yield under nature's force which caused massive flooding. This event, which was coined The Kuala Kubu Tragedy, destroyed the town.

The Brits, that occupied Malaya at the time, decided to build a new town not far from the remains of the destroyed Kuala Kubu and it was called, till today, Kuala Kubu Bharu. The end.

Well, not quite. Let's get to the fun that awaits you there. KKB is along the way to Fraser's Hill, which is another touri

st hot spot for another write up. So if you could arrange your time wisely, you could hit a double whammy.

So what's fun in KKB? Remember the river mentioned before? Fun in the river like no other.

If you're the adventurous type, hop on board the dinghy and hang on tight as the commandeer take you down the river on a white water rafting experience not to be missed.

If you're after a mallow, more relaxing experience, then grab one of those pre loved tyre tubes and let the stream and serendipity take you where you should be. Happier down stream.

Another river related activity is panning for tin ore in Sungai Alor Lempah. Experience the life of a tin mine worker way back in the days. Toiling for hours on end for a meagre wage. And they don't get to take selfies.

This next one is indirectly related to the river. You'd be way above it. At Jambatan Sungai Selangor there are rope related extreme sports that's perfect for adrenaline junkies. Swing 60 m above the river from the bridge or take a zip line through the green canopies. Do it once and do it again. But be warned that this is not for the faint hearted.

But if you want an experience the butterflies and bees would envy, set yourself up for a paragliding fun time. Share the view with our avian amigos and take it all in. Just go tandem with a pro and enjoy the wind in your face from hundreds of feet above sea level. The air will invigorated your soul. You would land and forgot how to stand up for a second or 2.

Set your heart and mind and call the good people at Laksana Sutera Travel & Tours for more information. Quick! Fun times await.
